Tiny Home Makeovers

Tiny Home Makeovers – I was recently made aware of a tiny home page on Facebook called Extreme Makeover: Tiny Home Edition.

I thought the concept was interesting at first, but I really didn’t think much of it at that point.

Tiny Home Makeovers

The next thing I knew I noticed some horribly hateful things on the site that made me think twice.

Tiny Homes: Design Ideas To Create Ideal Space For Sustainable Living

Some people referred to her site as a scam, “these people think I’m trying to run a scam about the original ABC-TV show, using the show’s name to scam people out of their money. That can’t be could be further from the truth,” the site’s owner told me.

I emailed Sally Schrock, the tiny house owner, to find out more, and while I’m sure I don’t have the whole story, I feel like I know enough about her tiny house situation to speak with confidence.

“I am profoundly deaf and have been since birth; when my mother was pregnant with me, she contracted rubella, also known as German measles, which destroyed most of my hearing. When my parents found out I was deaf, my mom decided to go back to college to earn her master’s degree in audiology so she could help me reach my potential in the hearing world while helping adults at the same time. others who are deaf and hard of hearing. and children,” Sally told me about her early experience.

“After living with my little brother in California for a few months and in a group home in Long Beach, I ended up in Illinois where I stayed until the end of June 2011 in a homeless shelter. That’s when I went to southern Maryland, where I’ve stayed ever since.”

It was then that Sally learned of a small unfinished house for sale nearby. “I have to admit that at first I was not impressed. It looks as ugly as sin from the outside to be sure, but the more I looked at the pictures, especially the interior, I started to really see the potential it had to become a truly wonderful home on wheels, a home that I could see for myself. living in, and the asking price of $1750 was close to my range. I was able to get the seller down to $1,650, which I think is a real steal considering the flatbed trailer alone is probably worth that much.”

Since then Sally started an IndieGoGo campaign to raise money to finish the house and rent land to park it on. Like Sally’s inspiration for the site, ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, she says she “really wants this to be a community event where people can come together to make this a reality. What would be great would be to take the house to, say, Lowe’s or Home Depot where these people can go in there and finish it, just like in the popular TV show, but obviously on a much smaller scale .”

I don’t care about the personal vendetta between her and the group that called “hoax” on her Facebook page. What I like is the idea of crowdfunding for such projects. Therefore I believe it should be an individual choice to support people seeking help in our community. To that end, I wanted to share Sally’s story and her tiny house makeover, to give everyone a chance to see her project and decide for themselves.

Th Wheel Tiny Home Makeover

This spring, I introduced you to our latest project: the Little Lake House renovation! We finished painting the outside of the cabin and completely remodeling the front porch, and then we finished the little bedroom makeover. Next, we made the small entrance to the cabin and gave the small kitchen a glorious makeover. Over the holidays, we finished creating the little living room!

We actually turned the master bedroom in our little lake house into a living room! Because we wanted to add a bathroom and mechanical room to the cabin, we had to completely transform the layout. The original bedroom spot was the perfect spot for the new living room that would double as a second sleeping spot with a sofa bed. You can see the Switcharoo floor plan right here!

Like the rest of this 467 square foot cabin, we completely gutted the living room area, rewired it, and insulated it with spray foam insulation to keep it energy efficient and keep the critters away. My husband Sean installed new drywall, and we installed a coffered ceiling and LVP flooring. New crown molding, new window trim and a fresh coat of paint completed this renovation.

This room was such a challenge to design as it is so small, but we were able to fit everything we wanted in! The small coffee table can be rotated so that the Kavuus sofa bed turns into an extra bed for us or our guests:

Because we know a TV is important in a vacation rental, we mounted a TV in the corner of this living room above an electric fireplace. This small fireplace looks like a wood stove and acts as a backup heat source for the cabin.

I originally wanted to put a dresser in this space to hold all the sheets and any extra items we wanted to store in the space. When it didn’t fit as pictured, I decided to move it to the dining area near the kitchen. It works so well here, and I’m glad I made the decision to move it out of the living room!

I was able to move the coffee maker to this dresser, there is still plenty of room to go in the kitchen and it leaves more room in the living room for an accent chair and fireplace.
